Tutorial Title: Young Generations and Privacy on Social Network Sites
Today, young generations actively participate, collaborate, and seek support as well as affirmation via social network sites. However, disclosing too much personal information in such sites creates vulnerabilities, for example interpersonal manipulation and commercial exploitation, and open new avenues of deviant behaviours such as cyberbullying and stealing identity. This tutorial proposes to give an introduction to the concept of personal privacy, with an emphasis on informational privacy. The tutorial will put a specific focus on privacy principles enacted in Privacy Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA 2010) and how the principles relate to our daily disclosure of personal information on social network sites. The presentations will be accompanied by real-life examples from actual field research.
