Chang Kim Ming works for Symantec in Kuala Lumpur, joining the company as part of Symantec’s acquisition of Blue Coat Systems in 2016. There he leads a team of threat analysts responsible for ensuring the protection of Symantec/Blue Coat customers worldwide. Chang has close to a decade’s experience on the front lines of the anti-malware industry as a malware analyst and security response manager. He has delivered talks and tutorials on introductory malware analysis and the threat landscape at local educational institutions. In his spare time, Chang aims to perfect his skill at boiling chinese soups and one time made pan mee entirely from scratch just so he could say he did.

We are now in an era where computing devices are not just everywhere and in everything, but increasingly online as well – and they aren’t just in factories as SCADA devices, they are everywhere, in our offices, in our homes, in our transportation, part of an ecosystem that covers everything from “Smart TVs” to “Smart Fridges” and remote security cameras. In this session, we will go over what the Internet of Things is, what it means for IT security, why it matters, and how we as general users and consumers of information technology and “smart” devices can begin to understand and evaluate this evolving threat landscape and what we need to do to begin protecting ourselves.
